Mention "Hawaii" and right away, you think about warm, sandy beaches, Waikiki, palm trees and North Shore surfing tubes. Hiking trails, however, are the few places that are seldom trekked by tourists. One of my favorite hiking trails is Waahila Ridge. The trail head starts above St. Louis Heights and the ridge trail overlooks Manoa Valley on one side and Palolo Valley on the other side. If you take the trail all the way to the top you'll be rewarded with a grand view of Kaneohe and Kailua beyond and all of Honolulu behind you. On a clear day you may even see the island of Maui. We didn't make it to the top on this trip, but next time we will. On your next vacation to Hawaii, go take a hike on any of Oahu's many lush, beautiful trails. You'll be glad you did. Aloha.
